In commemoration of Emirati Women's Day 2025, Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, President and CEO of the UAE Independent Climate Change Accelerators (UICCA), has released a tribute video to Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, and Mother of the Nation.
This tribute celebrates Sheikha Fatima's vision and leadership, which has shaped opportunities for Emirati women over five decades. The tribute arrives as the nation marks the fiftieth anniversary of Emirati Women's Day under this year's theme, Hand in Hand, We Celebrate 50 Years, commemorating half a century since the establishment of the General Women's Union in 1975.
In her message, Sheikha Shamma articulated how Her Highness Sheikha Fatima's words have been “engraved in our hearts” and how her vision has “shaped our future” and how her strength serves as a foundation “driving us to serve the nation”. She emphasised the principle that nation-building represents a shared responsibility, where roles intersect, with women and men working together through determination and steadfastness.
Sheikha Shamma said: "Today, we celebrate your leadership, and every woman who has left a mark – those who preceded us, those who walk alongside us, and those who will come after us. From the woman who protected her home and family, to the young woman carving her path towards leadership today - your legacy lives within them all."
The tribute aligns with this year's theme of national unity and collaboration, as Sheikha Shamma reflected on the values inherited from previous generations which include dignity, patience, faith, and love of country. She emphasised how these principles remain rooted in the current generation as they fulfil their roles in society.
As a sustainability leader and advocate for gender equity, Sheikha Shamma's tribute underscores the continuing impact of Sheikha Fatima's work in women's empowerment. Her achievements, including recognition as a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader in 2023 and founding multiple organisations focused on gender balance, exemplify the opportunities created through the Mother of the Nation's leadership.
