Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed, member of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Office, has attended the opening ceremony of the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship. His Highness also awarded medals to the winners of the top three spots of the Youth category during the event.

Organised by the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, the 14th edition of the event is taking place at the Jiu-Jitsu Arena in Zayed Sports City until 19 November. More than 5,000 participants from around the world are taking part at the event across multiple categories including youth, professional, masters and para-jiu-jitsu.

The event follows Abu Dhabi’s hosting of the Jiu-Jitsu World Championship earlier in the month, and further strengthens the emirate’s position as the global capital of jiu-jitsu.

His Highness was accompanied by His Excellency Abdel Moneim Al Hashemi, Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Sultan Al Nahyan, His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Khalifa bin Sultan Al Nahyan, His Excellency Abdullah bin Sultan Al Nuaimi, Minister of Justice, His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Mubarak Al Mazrouei, Chairman of the Office of the Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Council, His Excellency Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Chairman of the Department of Community Development, His Excellency Dr Mohamed Rashed Al Hameli, Director-General of Abu Dhabi Housing Authority, His Excellency Younis Haji Al Khoori, Undersecretary of Ministry of Finance, and His Excellency Aref Hamad Al Awani, Secretary General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council.

HE Abdel Moneim Al Hashemi said: “The patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, is a badge of honour for athletes from the UAE and the rest of the world. The success of our athletes at world forums is a result of the support they receive from His Highness.”
