On International Women’s Day, celebrated annually on 8 March, UN Women, an affiliate of the United Nations dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women, has praised the role of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, and Mother of the Nation, in empowering Emirati women to contribute to sustainable development and enhance their leading position across various fields.
Her Highness received a letter from Sima Sami Bahous, Executive Director of UN Women, praising the numerous programmes and initiatives launched by Her Highness that meet the requirements of women across all fields and have been delivered by the General Women’s Union over the past 50 years.
