The International Center for Research on Women (ICRW), a global research institute with offices in the United States, India, Kenya and Uganda, has announced the appointment of Her Highness Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan to its Leadership Council.

ICRW comprises social scientists, economists, public health specialists and demographers, all of whom are experts in gender. As thought leaders driven by a passion to alleviate poverty and rectify injustice in the world, the centre believes that women and girls, in collaboration with men and boys, are essential to improving quality of life, healthier families and stronger economies.

Alongside other high-profile global leaders who comprise the Leadership Committee, including Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah, Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, Amartya Sen, and Cherie Blair, Sheikha Shamma will provide strategic insight and advice to the organisation, while also serving as an ambassador for the ICRW and its mission.

Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, President and CEO of the UAE Independent Climate Change Accelerators (UICCA), said: “The ICRW has a clear mission to advance equality for women and girls around the world, which aligns with my strong personal and professional commitment to advocacy for gender and social equity. I look forward to working closely with my fellow members of the Leadership Council to empower future generations by forging opportunities for education, advocacy, and fulfilling livelihoods.”
