With the announcement of its new name, Tahnoun International Airport (AAN) is entering a new era in its development as Abu Dhabi’s second international gateway and a strategic enabler of connectivity and economic growth in the Eastern Region.
The airport has served Al Ain Region and its surrounding communities since its establishment in 1994. Over the last three decades it has solidified the region’s connectivity with major destinations across the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia, supporting trade, tourism, and wider economic activity and emerging as a rapidly developing regional cargo hub.
Operating around the clock across 16.7 square kilometres, AAN handles more than 120,000 passengers annually. Its infrastructure includes a 4,000-metre runway capable of accommodating large passenger and cargo aircraft, more than 9 apron positions, dedicated passenger, cargo, VIP and VVIP facilities, and a 2,000-square-metre cargo terminal.
The airport also serves as a regional maintenance, repair and overhaul hub and is home to several commercial and defence pilot training academies. Surrounded by approximately five million square metres of development-ready land, it can support growth across logistics, aviation, manufacturing, technology, energy, and hospitality, reinforcing its role as a platform for future investment and economic diversification in Al Ain Region and the wider emirate.
