His Highness Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Sports Council, issued a decree to establish six clubs for Olympic sports – fencing, athletics, weightlifting, archery, water sports and tennis.

HH Sheikh Nahyan extended his appreciation to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, for his generous support and continuous patronage in promoting and developing sporting activities in the country.

HH Sheikh Nahyan also praised the keen interest expressed by His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, member of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council and Head of the Abu Dhabi Executive Office.

HH Sheikh Nahyan emphasised the importance and roles of the new clubs to encourage, promote and develop the nation’s youth to pursue on Olympic sports.

He also noted the Abu Dhabi community and the sports sector are delighted with the support from the wise leadership that has provided all means of progress for the aspirations of all segments of society and embody their participation in all sports activities.

The new sports clubs in Abu Dhabi represent an important addition and a quantum leap in the development of the sports sector in Abu Dhabi and the UAE in general.

It is also in line with the aspirations of the Abu Dhabi government and its constant keenness to enhance the quality of life of citizens and residents in all sports activities.

The clubs will attach great importance to discovering talents, refining skills and creating champions from amongst the community so as to build the national teams and the Olympic movement.
