The Department of Municipalities and Transport has launched a project to develop and enhance the efficiency of abattoirs in Al Ain Region as part of its ongoing efforts to develop service facilities, enhance the efficiency and sustainability of municipal assets, support public health and food safety requirements and improve the quality of services provided to the community.
The total value of the project is AED 30.2 million. It includes the construction of a new abattoir in the Al Jabeeb area in accordance with the latest operational requirements and standards, in addition to carrying out maintenance, rehabilitation and efficiency enhancement works for the existing abattoir in the Sweihan area, thereby enhancing the readiness of the facilities and the reliability of their operational processes.
Engineer Abdullah Hamdan Al Ameri, Acting Executive Director of the Al Ain Infrastructure Sector, said: “This project represents an important step in our efforts to develop the abattoir services system in the Al Ain region by providing modern facilities and enhancing the efficiency of existing facilities, in a way that meets the current and future needs of the community. Through these projects, we are keen to promote the highest standards of public health and food safety, in addition to improving operational efficiency, service quality and customer experience.”
The new abattoir in Al Jabeeb area will provide an integrated facility that meets the needs of the area and supports the current and future demand for slaughtering services, within an organised and safe operational environment that takes into account health and environmental requirements and contributes to enhancing service efficiency.
Works at Sweihan abattoir include maintenance and rehabilitation, as well as enhancements to facility’s components and operational systems, contributing to extending the operational lifespan of the assets, enhancing their reliability and improving the level of services provided.
The project is currently 30 per cent complete, with works continuing in accordance with the project’s implementation programme and completion on 15 May 2027.
