The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) is showcasing a comprehensive suite of smart city solutions at GITEX Global 2025, highlighting how integrated digital platforms are driving a more liveable, adaptable, and data-driven Emirate.
At the event, visitors will be given the opportunity to explore how advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, data intelligence, and digital twin technologies, are being applied by the Department to deliver a transformative leap in sustainable smart cities. This approach ensures that planning processes and community services are effectively aligned to meet the evolving needs of residents and businesses as well as the challenges of urban growth.
Commenting on the latest developments driving Abu Dhabi’s smart city evolution, His Excellency Dr. Omar Al Shaiba, Executive Director of Information Technology Affairs Sector at DMT, said: “Our presence at this year’s GITEX Global reflects DMT’s long-term vision to harness emerging technologies, especially artificial intelligence, in advancing governance, efficiency, and quality of life across the Emirate. Through this renowned international event, we are demonstrating the scale and depth of Abu Dhabi’s digital transformation and what is possible when data, design, and integrated services come together to transform how plan design, manage, and experience cities.”
Among the key innovations on display is LivAI, an enhanced version of the DMT’s Digital Twin and AI Technologies platform first introduced at last year’s GITEX. LivAI provides real-time insights into quality of life across Abu Dhabi, allowing planners and government entities to visualise liveability scores by district through a dynamic 3D model. It also integrates predictive analytics and scenario modelling to support data-driven decision-making, enabling more effective resource allocation.
Further building on its commitment to leveraging advanced technologies, the Department is introducing the ‘DMT City Eye’. This advanced AI-driven framework is designed to enhance city management and emergency response times, thus strengthening community services that improve quality of life across the Emirate. The system incorporates LivAI comprehensive mapping, allowing operators to intelligently monitor inspections, analyse findings, and take appropriate action. Equipped with voice-command capabilities and predictive functionalities, City Eye enables proactive interventions to ensure efficient resource management and effective city operations.
Complementing City Eye, the Integrated Transport Centre, a DMT affiliate, is incorporating the Real-time Intelligent Traffic Safety Management System (RITSMS). Its Interactive Safety Map, a powerful interface that provides a detailed, real-time overview of traffic and road safety conditions across the Emirate, uses AI-driven analysis and live data to track crash hotspots, monitor near-misses, and anticipate collisions. These insights help forecast risks, guide interventions, and ultimately support Abu Dhabi’s goal of zero road fatalities.
LivAI’s third new feature to be exhibited for the first time at GITEX 2025 is the Smart Inspection Robot, designed to support field monitoring and operational responses in parks and recreational areas. Equipped with AI-driven sensors and environmental awareness capabilities, its multifunctional capabilities allow the robot to assist with park maintenance and distortion detection.
The Department’s participation at GITEX Global 2025 reaffirms its commitment to elevating the quality of life in Abu Dhabi through advanced digital platforms, cross-sector collaboration, and future-ready infrastructure — setting a benchmark for innovation across the region and beyond. It also underscores its pivotal role in shaping the Emirate’s smart city journey, driven by technology, guided by data, and dedicated to delivering faster, smarter, and more responsive services tailored to the needs of the future.
