In collaboration with the Department of Community Development – Abu Dhabi (DCD), the Family Development Foundation (FDF) and the Abu Dhabi Housing Authority (ADHA) have announced the details of the Obtain Home Improvements for Senior Citizens service, as part of the Barakatna initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE.
The service aims to facilitate the daily lives of senior citizens, enhance their comfort at home, ensure a safe and convenient living environment and provide suitable housing conditions that meet their health needs, promote their independence, and offer them a more stable and comfortable life.
Her Excellency Maryam Mohammed Al Rumaithi, Director-General of FDF said: “The Foundation strives to realise the vision and directives of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, and Mother of the Nation, building stable families and cohesive communities in line with its strategic vision to promote sustainable social development.
Her Excellency Maryam Mohammed Al Rumaithi noted that the service will enhance family and community wellbeing, and improve the quality of life for senior citizens, whom the UAE greatly values, as part of a comprehensive and sustainable national development vision.
Her Excellency highlighted the importance of the service in enabling the main caregiver of one or both parents to request approval for home modifications that rehabilitate key household facilities used by the senior citizen residing in the same home, ensuring their safety and meeting their health and daily needs.
In addition, Her Excellency emphasised that applicants must meet certain criteria, including: being UAE Nationals aged 60 and above (as per the National Policy for Senior Citizens); having family data issued from Abu Dhabi; residing permanently in the emirate; and being the primary caregiver living permanently in the same residence with a senior parent as a first-degree relative (son or daughter).
