The Zayed Authority for People of Determination has set a Guinness World Record for the longest chain of hanging ribbons in the world, measuring 663.53 meters and consisting of 1,300 ribbons. The artwork was handcrafted by talented individuals from the People of Determination community, with the participation of 13 national entities that helped transform the idea into a globally celebrated achievement.
The symbolic artwork carries an international message to raise awareness of hidden disabilities, reflecting the authority’s continuous commitment to enhancing community understanding of the needs of this group and promoting more inclusive and empathetic environments. The official announcement of the record took place during the 5th Abu Dhabi Family Forum, in the presence of an international Guinness adjudicator, and was attended by families, partner institutions and participating entities.
This project was carried out at the authority’s Innovation Center, where People of Determination designed, tied and assembled the ribbons, supported by the forum’s national partners, including the Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Program for Excellence and Artificial Intelligence, the Office of the Minister of Tolerance, Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Awal School, the Aqdar Khalifa Empowerment Program team, the National Library and Archives, Emirates Red Crescent, Little Smarties Nursery, Emirates Businesswomen Council, Air Arabia, Abu Dhabi Sports Council, Family Care Authority, Hemaya Schools at Dubai Police, and the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi.
The combined efforts of these entities contributed to the production, printing and community support that made this unique achievement possible.
His Excellency Abdullah Abdulalee Al Humaidan, Secretary General of the Zayed Authority for People of Determination, affirmed that the world record reflects the vision of the UAE’s wise leadership in fostering a sustainable and inclusive society. He emphasised that the participation of People of Determination in bringing this project to life showcases their creativity and provides them with greater opportunities to excel and contribute to national achievements.
His Excellency said: "This record is not merely another certificate in the UAE’s portfolio; it is a message that carries the values of empowerment, respect and humanity. It demonstrates that achievements are made when efforts unite, and that People of Determination can accomplish the extraordinary when provided with the right support and dedicated partners."
His Excellency Al Humaidan stressed that the authority will continue launching innovative initiatives that highlight the capabilities of People of Determination, reinforce their role in the UAE’s development journey, and contribute to new global accomplishments that reflect national excellence, determination and ambition.
The ribbon features the sunflower symbol, recognised globally as a sign of support for individuals with hidden disabilities, aiming to raise community awareness and encourage institutions to foster more understanding and accommodating environments.
The forum’s activities witnessed strong engagement from families and community members who watched the moment the record was officially registered by Guinness World Records - an event that highlighted the scale of effort invested by the authority and its partners, and underscored the essential role it plays in promoting awareness of hidden disabilities across society.
