Information about testing

Where can I get a PCR test?
PCR tests are available via appointment and walk-in at public and private testing facilities across the emirate. These include 24 SEHA drive thru national screening centres across the UAE.

Find the full list of PCR testing facilities in Abu Dhabi. More information about locations and hours of the SEHA facilities is available on the SEHA app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play.

What do I need at the PCR test appointment?
You need to show your Emirates ID, or your passport if you’re a non-resident.

How much does a PCR test cost?
The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi has mandated that standard PCR tests in the emirate have a fixed cost of AED40. Express services are available for AED350 (up to two hours) or AED250 (up to five hours).

UAE citizens, children of Emirati women, citizens and residents aged 50 years and above, those with chronic diseases, People of Determination, pregnant women and domestic workers in Emirati households are eligible for free tests when booked via the SEHA app.

How can I book an appointment?
You do not need an appointment to get a PCR test. If you prefer to book, appointments can be made via the SEHA app. Individuals with special requirements, such as those who are eligible for free testing, may need to upload documents onto the SEHA app, such as your sponsor's ID, your People of Determination card, or a pregnancy report.

How will I receive my test result?
If you have downloaded and registered on Alhosn app, your test result will appear on the app. You also have the option to receive a SMS or email with a link to your test result report; let the centre know when you are checking-in. If you require a report to use for travel purposes, you should state this when you check-in for your test.

How can private companies book group testing for their employees?
Private sector companies can arrange group testing for their employees by contacting SEHA at selfpay-covidtest@seha.ae.

How do I apply for a test refund?
You can apply for a PCR test refund via the SEHA App. Click on ‘View previous requests’, then click on ‘Refund’. Select the previous appointment that you want to claim a refund for and attach your Emirates ID and then click submit. You can re-click ‘Refund’ to follow up on the status.

Information about vaccination

Which vaccines are available in Abu Dhabi?
There are two vaccines available in Abu Dhabi. Sinopharm is available for those aged 3 and above. Pfizer-BioNTech is available for those aged 12 and above. Both require two doses, 21 days apart.

Do I need a booster dose?
If it has been more than six months since your second or third vaccine dose, you should get a booster dose to support your immunity against Covid-19. However, if you are a high risk case, you can receive a booster dose three months after your last received dose.

Both Sinopharm and Pfizer-BioNTech are available for a booster dose. You can choose either, according to your vaccination history. A booster dose after six months is required to maintain Green Pass on Alhosn app.

  • If you have had two or three doses of Sinopharm, you can receive a booster dose of Sinopharm or Pfizer-BioNTech six months after the last received dose.
  • If you had two doses of Sinopharm and a booster dose of Pfizer-BioNTech, you can receive a booster dose of Pfizer-BioNTech six months after the last received dose.
  • If you had two or three doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, you can receive a booster dose of Pfizer-BioNTech six months after the last received dose.

Where can I get vaccinated?
There are more than 100 vaccination facilities across Abu Dhabi emirate. For a full list of locations, timings and how to book, visit https://www.doh.gov.ae/en/covid-19/national-vaccination.

Walk-in is also available at all SEHA vaccination centres. For locations and timings, download the SEHA app, or call 80050.

  • Majlis in Abu Dhabi, Sunday-Thursday, 10am to 6pm
  • Mina Zayed, Abu Dhabi, daily, 8am to 8pm
  • Al Ain Convention Center, Al Khubiaisi hall, Al Ain, daily, 8am to 8pm
  • All Al Dhafra hospitals, Saturday-Thursday, 8am to 6pm
  • Majlis in Al Dhafra, Sunday-Thursday, 8am to 8pm

What do I need at the vaccination appointment?
You will need to take your Emirates ID. You will also need to download Al Hosn App to register prior to the appointment. Vaccine status will be then automatically updated on your App.

How can I prove I am vaccinated?
You should download Alhosn app and register before attending your vaccination appointment. After you receive each dose, Alhosn app will automatically show your updated vaccination status.

You can also download your vaccination certificate from Alhosn app. This may be needed when travelling, for example.

Can I vaccinate my child?
Yes, children aged three and above can receive the Sinopharm vaccine, following a successful study carried out in Abu Dhabi. Providing the vaccine to children is a key part of Abu Dhabi’s strategy to provide protection to all members of the community and supports a safe return to school.

How much does the vaccine cost?
The vaccine is free.

Can I be exempt from vaccination?
Yes, the following categories can be officially exempt from vaccination:

  • Active Covid-19 patients
  • Participants in vaccine clinical trials
  • Pregnant women
  • Recipients of a vaccine outside the country
  • Former Covid-19 patients following medical advice
  • Those who have previously had severe allergies to vaccines or components of vaccines
  • Those who have diseases that may be incompatible with the vaccine following medical evaluation

To obtain your official exemption:

  • Visit an authorised medical centre in Abu Dhabi for medical evaluation. To book, phone SEHA on 80050, or Mubadala Health on 8004959.
  • The centre will submit a report to the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi for approval.
  • You will be notified whether your application is successful via SMS.
  • If approved, the official exemption will be reflected on Alhosn app.

How can I verify an international vaccination certificate?
To verify and upload an international vaccination certificate in Alhosn app, you should follow these procedures:

Before departure to Abu Dhabi:
Register with the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA), via its website (ica.gov.ae) or its app, which can be downloaded at the Apple Store or GooglePlay. Complete the register arrivals form, and attach your international vaccination documents. Once approved, you will receive an SMS including a link to download Alhosn app.

When you arrive in Abu Dhabi:
You will receive a Unified Identification Number (UID) either at the airport or via the ICA website or app. You need to download Alhosn app and register using the UID and the same phone number used for ICA registration or the phone number used during the PCR Test. Then you will receive a one-time password (OTP) to complete the Alhosn registration process.

On Alhosn app, you can check your status (green, grey or red), vaccination information, test results and travel test requirements, and use the live QR code.

Information related to testing positive or coming into close contact with a positive case

What do I do if I test positive? 
If you test positive for Covid-19 and have severe symptoms, such as shortness of breath, go to the nearest emergency ward immediately.

If you test positive and are aged 50 years or older, have a chronic condition or are pregnant, you should visit one of the designated Covid-19 Prime Assessment Centres for medical assessment and isolation measures:

  • Abu Dhabi City: Al Mushrif (Al Mushrif Wedding Hall) or Madinat Moahmed Bin Zayed Center (for Laborers)
  • Al Ain: Al Ain Convention Centre – Gate 7
  • Al Dhafra Region: Madinat Zayed City Center or Al Dhafra Hospitals Prime Assessment Centers

If you test positive for Covid-19 and have mild or medium symptoms and no chronic illness, you should retest within 24 hours of your first positive result in any health facility in Abu Dhabi and continue to isolate until receiving the result of the second test.

If your second PCR test result is positive, isolate at home and the Covid-19 virtual assessment centre will contact you to communicate the isolation measures.

If your second PCR test result is negative, you can resume activities and continue to follow precautionary measures.

What do I do if I come into contact with a positive case?

If you have contact with a positive case, you should take a PCR test on Day 1 and Day 7 from contact, even if the Day 1 test result is negative, without quarantine or isolation.

To end isolation, you must receive two negative PCR test results 24 hours apart, or complete 10 days isolation with no symptoms shown in the last 3 days of isolation.

How can I seek mental health support during the pandemic?
The pandemic can be a difficult period. If you feel you would benefit from mental health support, call the ISTIJABA call centre on 800 1717.

 

Information about violation of procedures and precautionary measures

Am I liable for fines if I violate a procedure or precautionary measure?
Violators of a procedure or precautionary measure are liable for fines and prosecution.

Violations include, but are not limited to, failing to take the required tests, failing to complete quarantine, or failing to wear a mask in a public place.
